Job Description

Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics and the outdoors.  

Position Summary:  

The Grounds and Ranch Hand is responsible for maintaining the grounds of the campus, including tasks like lawn care, irrigation, and general maintenance from April to September. They will also be involved in other ranch operations, such as animal care and equipment maintenance from October through March.  

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

• Mowing lawns, trimming hedges and trees, irrigating fields, applying fertilizers, and controlling weeds. 
• Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks, such as repairing fences, fixing leaks, and replacing parts. 
• Planting trees, shrubs, and flowers, and maintaining their health and appearance. 
• Removing or preventing weeds from growing in lawns, gardens, and other areas. 
• Cleaning up debris, removing trash, and maintaining the overall cleanliness and tidiness of the campus. 
• Fence Repair and installation. 
• Crop irrigation setup, maintenance, and laydown for winter. 
• Assisting with animal care, such as feeding and herding livestock, cleaning stables, and repairing fences. 
• Brush clearing, trail maintenance, and other ranch-related tasks. 
• Regular and reliable attendance 
• Other duties as assigned

• Ability to learn new tasks and techniques as needed. 
• Ability to operate farm equipment. 
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in a team environment. 
• Detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, self-directed and punctual. 
• Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

Education, License and Experience Qualifications : 

• High School Diploma Required. College degree preferred. 
• Possess or ability to obtain a Colorado Driver’s license within 30 days 
• Experience working in a boarding/day school environment is preferred. 

Working Conditions :  

• Environment: Working mainly outdoors in all types of weather. 
• Physical demands: Must be able to sit, stand, and walk 8 hrs per day and lift items weighing up to 50 lbs; 
• Working Relationships: Students, parents, alumni, outside vendors, potential donors and all other employees
